Rancid odor. Rancid behavior.
0Kunstschule Hamburg is a top, excellent education in game design and communication design, perfect for sparking creativity. Here, passionate profs with experience and knowledge meet a positive learning environment where you dare to test new ideas. They combine art and tech very well. The game design course is broad, communication design is always current. The school offers more than education - it unleashes creativity and prepares you for the digital world. Highly recommended!
0The art school offers modern equipment (MAC, latest software etc.) as well as cool rooms, which make learning easier. In addition, everyone is super open, communicative and above all helpful. Here you don't feel like a "number", but are taken seriously. The advantage of the training is also that many different courses are offered. If you look at former students or projects, you can see the variety and options of the training at the Kunstschule Wandsbek.

Structured, organized and open is not what I would call the school. Instructors who want to teach young designers something in this day and age with their time-honored applications and techniques and think they and their 30-year-old work is better. It's more about satisfying the lecturer and thus getting good grades for him/her, than promoting his/her own individual development and finding his/her style. A constructive and meaningful "feedback culture" does not really exist. People are randomly accepted to this school and after a few semesters you realize that unfortunately (and this is the truth) they have no artistic skills and/or don't understand anything about design. And that makes you feel a little "out of place" yourself, because you're not surrounded by creative minds and you don't learn from each other. The so-called "intermediate exam", where you had to present in MAXIMUM 15 minutes, is terribly pointless, just as old-fashioned and requires students to spend even more money. One had to create a huge folder containing perfectly printed and neatly pasted twelve works/exercises from the past 3 semesters... "Art school" in KW is probably taken too seriously here. In the 4th semester you still have program training and useless assignments that count as small exercises, so three semesters before graduation you still have nothing or hardly anything for your portfolio. There are certainly positive sides, but the negative ones outweigh the positive ones too much to list them here. And that's why I and 7 other people decided to change schools. I would have much more to say but here is my conclusion: not recommended! It makes a big noise, but there is nothing behind it. The school definitely knows how to promote itself, but there are other schools where you can get a better understanding of design in the present and future times. Ones that have better instruction, much more non-graded, freer in project selection or personal development, or ones with course selection (which is non-existent at the art school, you only scratch the surface of everything and can't specialize in anything) and probably far better than this school in other ways.
17Thank you for your honest feedback. We are sorry to hear that you were dissatisfied with your experience at our school. We take your feedback seriously and would like to comment on a few points. Our goal is to provide a quality education and a positive learning environment for our students. However, we are surprised that you felt our instructors used outdated techniques and applications and were unable to teach you contemporary design concepts. Our equipment is currently up to date, with new computers and software, and we have also invested heavily in the photo studio area. We are also committed to ensuring that our instructors are always up to date with the latest industry developments and are continually improving their teaching methods. All lecturers also work in parallel in agencies, studios, publishing houses or as independent creatives. We have actually changed the point of the midterm exam and turned it into a portfolio check, in which students are tested for market readiness so that they can then take up an internship or work-study job and give shape to their creative personality. As a "program training" course, we offer Motion Design in the 4th semester, which teaches the After Effects program among other things, but is a separate and important area/profession. It is also unfortunate that you felt you were not treated fairly by some instructors. We want to emphasize that we want to create an open and supportive environment where every student has the opportunity to reach their full potential. We will take note of your comments and ensure that our instructors provide appropriate feedback and encourage individual development. We sincerely regret that you have decided to leave the school. We will use your comments to make improvements and ensure that future students have a more positive experience. Thank you again for your feedback and we wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
Nice, competent lecturers (for the most part), wide range of practical subjects and regular workshops, events and meetings.
0Semester fees were increased at short notice, yet the toilets look like a monkey's monkey. The tap water is also naturally ice cold. Students have to wash their hands with ice-cold water and then still have no towels to dry their hands. Awesome! <3 EDIT: After graduation, you do not even have a bachelor :)
11Hey Sascha, Thank you for your review and feedback. We take your concerns seriously and want to make sure you have a pleasant environment as a student. First of all, we are sorry to hear about the semester fee increase on short notice. We know that price increases can be challenging. We waited a good 2 years to raise the prices or absorb the higher expenses ourselves, but due to the high inflation that affects us all, we then had to respond. As for the condition of the toilets, we are sorry that you find them inadequate. We would like to point out that the cleanliness of the toilets also depends on how they are left by the students. We have, a professional cleaning company to ensure that the restrooms are cleaned regularly. We will see if improvements can be made to keep the cleanliness at a high level. Regarding the cold tap water, we would like to point out that the plug from the boiler was not in the socket, which resulted in only cold water coming out. We have solved this. Unfortunately, it happens from time to time that the plug is pulled out by the students. We apologize for the missing towels. This was not supposed to happen. We will make sure there are enough towels for hand drying and increase inventory or check replenishment if necessary. Please understand that we are a state-approved vocational school and do not award a bachelor's degree. Our focus is on a hands-on, market-oriented degree, and we want to maintain that. We also do not advertise a bachelor's degree as this is not part of our program. We take your feedback seriously and want to make sure your experience with us is as positive as possible. Thank you for your understanding. Best regards, The team of Kunstschule Wandsbek
